Frequently Asked Questions
Why we don't recommend online ADHD Self Assessment
We’ve seen firsthand how online self-assessments can negatively impact both adults and children, often leading to frequent misdiagnoses. For example, a typical question like “Feeling anxious? Having trouble focusing?” prompts most people to answer yes, even when those feelings may simply stem from stress or lack of sleep.
At Calgary Mind and Wellness Clinic, we take a different approach — a comprehensive, in-person assessment using cognitive testing to evaluate your behaviour and patterns across different environments. This proven method delivers more accurate and reliable results.
What are the benefits of accurate ADHD Assessment?
- An accurate diagnosis is crucial for effectively addressing ADHD. Research shows that adults with undiagnosed ADHD often face comorbid conditions like anxiety and depression, which can remain untreated without proper evaluation. Our assessment process utilizes structured clinical interviews and validated rating scales to ensure a comprehensive understanding of your behavioral patterns and emotional challenges. By obtaining a clear diagnosis, you can reduce stigma and build a foundation for targeted interventions that enhance your overall quality of life.
- Accurate Diagnosis: An ADHD assessment provides a clear and accurate diagnosis, helping individuals understand whether they have ADHD and how it affects their daily life. This clarity is essential for effective management and treatment.
- Personalized Treatment Strategies: The assessment process identifies specific symptoms and challenges, allowing professionals to develop tailored treatment plans that address individual needs. This personalized approach increases the likelihood of successful outcomes.
- Improved Self-Understanding: Undergoing an assessment enhances self-awareness by helping individuals recognize their strengths and weaknesses, fostering a deeper understanding of how ADHD impacts their behavior and decision-making.
- Enhanced Functioning: With insights gained from the assessment, individuals can implement effective coping strategies that lead to improvements in social interactions, family dynamics, and occupational performance. This holistic approach not only addresses ADHD symptoms but also promotes overall well-being and quality of life.
Can any Therapist conduct ADHD Assessment?
No. A therapist or psychologist needs special training to offer this service. A qualified therapist is integral to the assessment process, ensuring accurate diagnosis and a thorough understanding of your unique experiences. Our experienced psychologists at Calgary Mind and Wellness Clinic are skilled in administering standardized assessment tools and interpreting results accurately.
They are knowledgeable about the latest evidence-based practices for ADHD management, allowing for a holistic approach to treatment. With their guidance, you will not only receive a comprehensive evaluation but also the support necessary for personal growth and improved mental health.
