Neuropsychological Assessment →How a psychological assessment works
1. Clarify the referral question
We begin by identifying the concern, relevant history and what decisions the assessment needs to inform.
2. Select appropriate measures
Standardized tests, rating scales, interviews and record review are chosen based on the clinical question and age of the client.
3. Integrate the findings
Results are interpreted together, including areas of convergence and discrepancy, rather than relying on one score or questionnaire.
Reports, feedback and recommendations
Where appropriate, assessment includes a written report summarizing history, test results, interpretation, diagnostic conclusions and individualized recommendations. A feedback session allows clients or families to review the findings, ask questions and discuss next steps.

Insurance and direct billing
Direct billing may be available for eligible psychological assessment services. Coverage depends on your insurance plan, the provider’s professional designation and your benefit terms. Please confirm coverage directly with your insurer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which assessment I need?
The first step is clarifying the referral question. A brief consultation can help determine whether ADHD, psychoeducational, autism, gifted, neuropsychological or another assessment pathway is the best fit.
Does every assessment result in a diagnosis?
No. The purpose is to determine what best explains the findings. Sometimes diagnostic criteria are met; in other cases the assessment may identify strengths, weaknesses or contributing factors without a formal diagnosis.
Will I receive recommendations?
Yes, when appropriate. Recommendations are based on the assessment findings and may address school, work, treatment, accommodations or daily functioning.
