ADHD assessment across the lifespan
ADHD can affect people differently depending on age, environment and responsibilities. Our assessment pathways are tailored to adults, children and teens.
Adults
Assessment may focus on lifelong attention difficulties, executive functioning, work or post-secondary demands, relationships, organization and time management.
Adult ADHD Assessment →Children
Child assessment often includes parent and teacher input, school functioning, developmental history and behaviour across more than one setting.
Child ADHD Assessment →Teens
Teen assessment may integrate school performance, executive-function demands, emotional functioning, self-report and caregiver or teacher information.
Child & Teen ADHD Assessment →What a comprehensive ADHD assessment can include
Clinical interview
Current concerns, developmental history, school or work functioning, medical and mental-health history, sleep and other relevant factors.
Standardized measures
ADHD rating scales, executive-function measures, behavioural or emotional measures and collateral information where appropriate.
Testing when clinically indicated
Cognitive, academic or attention testing may be included when needed to answer the referral question. No single test determines an ADHD diagnosis.
Differential diagnosis is essential
Attention and executive-function difficulties can also occur with anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep disorders, learning disorders, autism, substance use, medical conditions and other concerns. A comprehensive assessment considers these alternatives and co-occurring conditions.
Frequently asked questions
Does every ADHD assessment result in a diagnosis?
No. The purpose is to determine whether diagnostic criteria are met and to explain the findings even when ADHD is not the best explanation.
Is brain mapping required for ADHD diagnosis?
No. qEEG or brain mapping is not required to diagnose ADHD. If offered for another clinical purpose, it should be considered separately from the diagnostic assessment.
Will I receive recommendations?
Yes, when appropriate. Recommendations may address treatment, school or workplace accommodations, executive-function strategies and next steps.
